Travelling to Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki is served by Thessaloniki “Makedonia” International Airport (IATA: SKG).

The airport is connected to many European destinations by carriers including Aegean, Ryanair, Wizz Air, easyJet and Lufthansa. For a full list of routes see the airport destinations page.

Ground transport into the city centre includes:

  • Bus X1: Operated by OASTH, departs every 30 minutes from outside Arrivals and runs to the KTEL Macedonia Intercity Coach Station. Journey time is about 40 minutes; a one-way ticket costs €2 (€1 for students). Tickets available from inside the bus.

  • Bus X2: Also by OASTH, departs every 30 minutes for Nea Elvetia where is a metro station. Travel time is around 35 minutes; fare is €2 (€1 for students).

  • Taxis: Available 24/7 from the arrivals forecourt. A trip to the centre costs around €20–25, with a 20% surcharge on weekends, public holidays, and between 22:00–05:00. Large luggage may incur an extra charge.

Overland connections by bus and car serve the Balkans network:
